PictureManager v0.3 per 16.1.2021 This program can be used to organize images into logical groups and in the desired order. Image editing or rotation with this program is not possible, and the program do not delete original images. Once the program has started, you can select the language from the top left. The default is Finnish, alternatively English. This guide includes English option. Typically, you start by clicking the "Select source folder" button. It selects the folder where the images will be processed. Program displays the names of the image files in the folder below the button in the list. The image selected from the list is displayed on the right side of the list (Selected source file). By default is the first image in the list. The text "Source files" is followed in parentheses the number of image files in the source folder. NOTE. Only .jpg and .JPG suffixes are considered in the source folder files. The new collection is added with the "Add new collection" button. First is enter the desired collection name in the "Name of new collection" field. The name has no limitations in principle. Added collection appears in the "Collections" list and the number of collections appears in parentheses. The selected collection can be deleted with the "Remove collection" button, in which case the collection and all its file references are deleted. Before removing from the user confirmation is requested. When more collections are added, the new collection is placed in the list according to the "Before" and "After" buttons relative to the last selected collection. As a result of the "To first" button, the new collection will be at the top of the list, and as a result of the "To last" button, the new collection is added to the end of the list. The "Files in collection" list shows the files in the selected collection and in parentheses the number of files in the collection in question. The "Add selected source file to selected collection" button adds the file selected from the list of source files (its name, full path) to the selected collection, and "Before", "After", "To first" and "To last" buttons define the position in the collection related to the last selected file in the selected collection. The selected file (middle image) is displayed on the right side of the file list. Above it is the image before and below is the image after the selected file. NOTE. If the file is not defined (exists), then the location of the image in question the image in the file "Oletuskuva.jpg" is displayed. The entire file reference can be deleted with the "Remove file" button. Before deletion the user confirmation is asked. The source file can be selected from their list with the mouse by clicking corresponding file or using the "Prev." and "Next" buttons. Similarly, the collection file can be selected in the same way, i.e. with the mouse or the corresponding buttons. The name of the selected source file is preceded by a plus sign (+) when a file is attached to a collection. This may help to remember which files have already been added to the collections. The "Move up" and "Move down" buttons can be used to change the position of selected collection in the list of collections. Correspondingly, a collection file can be moved up or down in the collection. In addition, a collection file can be defined as "anchor" by selecting the desired file and pressing the 'Set anchor' button. After this selecting the file and pressing the 'Move before/after anchor' button the file is moved before or after the anchor file. The selected anchor is indicated by a "barb" (greater than character) in front of the file name. The "Add all files to selected collection" button can be used to add every file in the source directory to the selected collection. In this version, the addition always takes place at the end of the collection. Collections and their file information can be saved with the button "Save all sort data". It will then save to the selected file the name of each collection and the names of the files attached to that collection (full file path). The "Restore previous data" button can be used to restore earlier saved collections and their file names. NOTE. There is a good way to save this information quite often in order to guarantee that a problem with the program does not waste all the work done. NOTE. The actions described so far have not any effect to the original image files themselves. Only their information (filenames and paths) are grouped as desired. The "Save all files" button copies the selected ones to the collections files (images) to the desired folder in the order of the files are in collections. Copied files are named after the beginning of the name forms the text entered in the "Constatnt part" field. The full length of the name is given in the "Name length" field. Added after the standard part the number obtained from the 'Start value', to which is added the value given in the "Increment" field. Zeros are added in front of the number section if necessary so that the desired name length is reached. The file name ends with ".jpg". By default, the names of the first few files would therefore be the following: PIC_00000000.jpg, PIC_00000010.jpg, PIC_00000020.jpg, etc. NOTE. No changes are made to the original source files, they are only copied using new names. Under "Folders to which to save" you can select whether to save all files to the same selected folder (select "One folder") or each collection to its own folder (select "Many folders"). If "Many folders" is selected, then a separate subfolder is created for each collection, which is named according to the collection, and the files in the collections are copied to these subfolders. Selecting "Only selected collection" only the files in the selected collection are copied to the selected folder. Known deficiencies / defects: - adding the entire source folder (all its files) to the selected collection possible only to the end of the collection - the function of the anchor in all special situations has not been tested - the folder where to save files must exists, it cannot be created by the program - only pictures of .jpg-format are allowed, at least .png-format may be also needed
